Kottayam is an important commercial centre of Kerala and is situated in the southern part of India. Kottayam is also known as the rubber hub of Kerala, and is among the state's most mountainous regions, providing some of Kerala's finest natural scenes. Ettumanur: This Shiva temple is situated 12 km north of Kottyam town. The temple is considered the most important amongst the trimvirate of Shiva Temples, a group of three temples, the Ettumanur temple has an inscription at the base which states that the temple was consecrated in the year 1545 AD.

Thirunakkara Mahadev Temple : The temple built by Thekkumkar raja is a wonderful reflection of the traditional Keralese architecture. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is believed to be around 500 years old.

St Mary's Knanaya Church, Valiyapalli : The church is located atop a hill and is dedicated to St Mary. It was constructed in 1550 AD by the successors of Syrian Knanaya Christians who came to India in 345 AD.

St Mary Church (Cheriyapally) :This church is also not far off from Valiyapalli. It was built and consecrated by the Portuguese in the year 1579, however, a local Hindu raja also helped out. As such you have a good blend of Portuguese architecture along with the temple architecture of Hindus.

Thazathangadi Juma Masjid :This mosque stands on the banks of river Meenachil river and is made up of teak. The mosque is believed to be around thousand year old and was constructed by Malik Dinar.
